sxsw 2008 @ plush: part one 3.14.2008
We are going to skip ahead a little for now. I have some footage of AAD in OKC, but I have a lot more music footage from the Austin shows for sure. In order: Like Dogs, Sleep Today, Ginsu Wives, and Asleep, Audience…Dream!
day three: little rock, ar
This was the day that gave us a taste of the anxiety we would be feeling from the chaos that would be SXSW. Due to all the decision making, rapid load-in and out, and whirl-wind music playing, there wasn’t much time for getting all the bands on video. There is a little segment of the Pharmacy who were some friendly dudes from the northwest. After that, we had to load out quickly.
day two: louisville, ky
As usual, I didn’t get any footage of the first band. I also, unfortunately, did not get their band name. It wasn’t on any flier that I saw, and my idiot-self forgot to ask. They were a really genuine group who played a beautiful sounding rhodes. Amber and John (I think that was his name… sorry i suck) had some lovely vocal synergy.
Second was a amazing group called themovingsidewalk. these guys are like listening to Siamese twins finish each other’s sentences. It’s some strange intangible, psychic ,melody making that is quite hard to explain, but made me really happy.
The super-friendly Brooklynites, Pepi, played afterwards. Their stuff was quite light-hearted and enjoyable. It reminded me strangely of some post-modern Bob Dylan stuck in an alternate universe. My suggestion for the singer would be to ALWAYS talk between songs….. ALWAYS.
We are now at Vino’s in Little Rock and working on day three. oh god.
day one: chapel hill, nc
The Sleepers kicked off the set, and I unfortunately didn’t get any footage of it. However, they were quite enjoyable, and I hope Houston works out for them. Apparently, Super Happy Fun Land cancelled on fifty some-odd bands.
Next up was A is Jump who played “Red Shadows” after my begging and pleading. Their set was beautiful, and I love those guys (people + music) whole heartedly.
Stationary Set rocked the planet as you can well see. The proof is in the pudding and the pudding was made with milk.
